DMC (Detroit Medical Center) is glad to declare it has been chosen to participate in the year of 2017 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’s (CMS’s) Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Model, a transformative step sponsored by the CMS Innovation Center. Michigan Pioneer ACO of DMC will sustain to merge with CMS to give Medicare beneficiaries with higher-quality care at lower charges as a Next Generation ACO model. 
The declaration is an outcome of a rigorous and competitive selection procedure that started in the year of 2015 with the national release of a request for Letters of Intent (LOI) from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The Next Generation ACO Model gives a latest opportunity in accountable care that sets predictable financial targets, enables providers and beneficiaries larger opportunities for coordination with the target to attain the greatest quality standards of care and improve health results. The Next Generation ACO Model will permit the ACO greater flexibility in giving benefit enhancements and payment models involving faster approach to skilled nursing facilities and other services.  

The Michigan Pioneer ACO is believed to be one of the original thirty-two Pioneer ACOs participating in the 5 year Model that started in the year of 2012, and is one of 9 still victoriously participating. In fact, the Michigan Pioneer ACO was ranked as the most successful Pioneer ACO of nation in the year of 2014 for financial benchmark savings improvements and has continually increased its quality and efficiency every year. The Michigan Pioneer ACO has decreased Medicare spending for the health care services by $41 million since its inception in 2012, resulting in net savings to the Medicare program of $20 million. 

The necessary services is being offered by the Next Generation ACO model for all stages of healthcare involving chronic disease programs, preventative care reminders, transportation assistance following hospitalization, appointment assistance, transitional care call follow-ups, and the support of the high quality specialists on staff at DMC.
